If you want a custom order, you will have to place your order very soon. Buffalo has a day job through the end of October so her art creation time is limited.
Halloween is 6 weeks off but you need to start thinking about it now for costuming purposes. Want something unique for Halloween? Buffalo's got you covered. Going through her current inventory, she has at least 20 hats that could be the centerpiece of an inspirational costume. Or you could go with one of her fabric or needlelace masks. One thing is certain: a Buffalo costume accessory will be entirely unique. You could be the only person at the Halloween party sporting a Roman legionnaire helmet styled like a lionfish.

Sometimes a Buffalo hat doesn't quite work in its original incarnation and Buffalo comes back to it and tweaks it until it does work. That's what happened to the Mermaid Party Hat. It just didn't sit right with the flopped over tail, which made it look like a sad Orca with a floppy dorsal fin at SeaWorld. So Buffalo added some wire armature and now it is much more festive. See the before and after shots below. The new, erect Mermaid Tail Party Hat is available on Etsy.
Buffalo is back from her private catering gig and the stores are back open - or will be open once I get her to provide the password information to reactivate Stripe processing here in the buffalohats.com store. But the Etsy store is open now.
UPDATE: the buffalohats.com store is now open for business. Good News/Bad News: Buffalo sold a lot of stuff while she was away, including the Pizza & Beer Hat, the Supreme Queen of the Fruitflies Hat, both Shepherdess Hats (cat and fox), the Cartwright Hat and three out of five party hats. Plus my favorite of the fabric masks: the Monster Mask. And another favorite hat of mine, the purple riding hat with veil. Those are all gone forever so if you were thinking of buying any of them, too late! But I am sure there are many wonderful new hats just around the corner once Buffalo has had a few days of rest and relaxation. I will keep you posted. We finally set up an official facebook page for Buffalo Hats. Do check it out and like it. We'll post site updates, new hats, etc. there from now on instead of on Buffalo's personal page. I updated the social media links in the footer to point to buffalohatsandmasks.
In other news, we are slowly adapting Etsy's new shipping policies on a listing by listing basis. This requires weighing and measuring each item in a shipping box and we don't currently have any boxes big enough to accommodate the larger brimmed hats. What does this mean for you? Theoretically, shipping rates on Etsy are more accurate now. Buffalo made a pretty good guess at US shipping rates, but international shipping is vastly more expensive. For this reason, the items that haven't been properly weighed are currently only available in the US. Here in the website store, tax and shipping are included in the price for US orders. If you live outside the US, email Buffalo to make arrangements for international shipping. Buffalo's store is filled with the products of her own fevered imagination, but she also makes hats to order for customers who know what they want. You pick the style, the colors, the accessories. Today's blog spotlights a new custom hat made for Don McF. He wanted a hat with a detachable ivy wreath that could be worn separately. You can now buy Buffalo Hats logo merchandise on Cafe Press! The range of products available for branding on Cafe Press is immense (250+ different items) but we started in three basic categories: glassware (mugs, pint glasses, shot glasses, commuter cups), bags (totes, lunch bags, messenger bags, etc.), and shirts & hoodies. You may choose between Pirate Buffy and Rocketship Buffy.
I had a lot of problems setting up this store. The standard template only displayed 2 items in each section so I ripped out the top menu bar to avoid confusion. You can get to each section from the sidebar. I still can't upload a logo on the front page, no matter how hard I try. Hopefully, I'll sort this out soon. Added some hats to the Etsy store, including the distinctive Pan hat. Also an Elizabethan cocktail hat and a new raffia Stetson. Plus a raffia Renaissance Dandy hat and a forest camouflage felt hat. The Outer Space beret will be added soon but I think I want to re-photograph it first.
A few words about Buffalo's Tiny Hats. When I first began photographing these, I forgot to include a coin to indicate scale. Most of those photos ended up in the Tiny Hats gallery. When the store opened, I re-photographed a number of tiny hats on a tiny hatrack for the store pages. You can find those tiny hats for sale individually under Tiny Hats 1, Tiny Hats 2, Tiny Hats 3, Tiny Hats 4 and Tiny Hats 5. Today we launched a Tiny Hats section in the Etsy store for tiny hats with tiny hat boxes. These are for sale as a hat with hatbox set. We may later put up listings for tiny hats without hatboxes here as well. For those of you who already own full-size Buffalo Hats, Buffalo can make a tiny replica of your hat. Drop her a line if you would like to discuss it. We are still working on the product listings. Check back in a couple of days for tiny hats in tiny hat boxes and a stetson, which needs to be re-photographed. Maybe some felt hats too.
